On the assumption that people actually want to have an area like this
(and I actually like the idea myself), here are the choices for the
newgroup name. Please let me know which folks would like best.

1) deja.comm.fur.flame

2) deja.comm.fur.rant

3) deja.comm.fur.soapbox

4) deja.comm.fur.opinion

I'll give this a week before I end the 'query' period and create the
newsgroup.

Personally, number 3 is my favorite. It's a nice, folksey name. :)

*chuckle* Well, that's also my personal-favorite way to describe when
someone is going into a rant. It implies that you want to have people
listen to your words, rather than standing on a street corner and
yelling to the general world without regard to who listens. ;3

I agree that the third name is the best--it doesn't restrict the topic
to rants. If someone simply has an opinion, they can air it.:)

Soapboxes always invoke this image, I think it was from a painting, of a
gentleman under a willow tree. It's near sunset, light is streaming
through the fronds, and he's atop his soapbox in a nice suit, speaking
with arm outraised to a group of very Victorian looking ladies and
gentlemen.

Feels like something out of "To Kill a Mockingbird."
