Having recently acquired professional equipment for making buttons (not
the Badge-A-Minit stuff, either), I was wondering if folks would find
any of these interesting?

The 1" size is small, good for short phrases, long phrases in tiny type
or a small picture.

The 2.25" size is 'standard', the one you see at all the cons and shows
which people handwriting phrases on them.

The 3" size is 'large', best for more detailed images (like photos) and
creative layouts of type.

As I have one of each of these machines, I'm looking for uses for them.
At least one convention is looking at getting some of the 3" buttons
made with the con's name and an image on it, another con is talking
about the 1" buttons with pithy slogans. Certainly for local cons I can
even bring the presses with me to make customized images, but right now
I want to create some standard stock to have at the next con
(Anthrocon).

What would folks like to see?

Just an aside, this size button was always popular with Doctor Who fans
because it was perfect for question marks and the like. :)

Interesting...

<chuckle> Well, Will Sanborn joked with the rest of the writers on the
Anthrocon Art Show staff that one day he'd show up with a big stack of
badges that said "Don't mind me, I'm just a writer." :) But I wouldn't
mind seeing one or two pro-literacy badges. Maybe a nice picture of a
fur with a book, surrounded by a quote from an author or two.

Another idea would be to make some Other Suns or Dancing Stoat
promotional badges in each size. You can get fairly creative with
minimal images. I remember R. Talisorian's promotional run for Mekton
Zeta in the beginning just consisted of the phrase "BELIEVE" with a
massive Z in the background.

Maybe something similar for Other Suns? The 1" badges can have a
stylized "OS 2000" on them. Then you expand on the theme, using a bit
more art and text on each size badge.

Then, you'd knock two birds with one stone. You'd get to show off your
badge stock AND promote your product as well. :)

As a librarian, I am all in favor of that idea:)

I think that is a good idea, too. However, what about having khromat
sayings, or a badge stating that you're an official member of Club
Khromat with a picture of Micole? I would recommend a badge with the
name of Mr. Google Eyes with a line across it, but that probably
wouldn't be acceptable.:)

That was actually kind of what I was thinking... stuff people would buy
to wear and get others to read.

Actually, I already thought of that. My question was more about what
folks would like to see that they'd buy. :3

Sure, it'd be acceptable! So would "Digital Impudendum: Just say NO!"
(for those who don't know, that's the name of Kevin Duane's company).
I'll make stuff for folks willing to pay me for it.... and other stuff
I'll gladly do just because I think it needs to be done. >:3

Maybe you could get the writer guest of honor to wear and/or promote
them? :)

If you put a good piece of OS related artwork, I'm sure it would sell
for that alone. :)

Mr. Google Eyes? What, those annoying toy things?

I left a few other comments on badges in another thread, but to sum up:
Humor always works. Imagine the badge as a "Far Side" style comic with
one image and one sentence to work with.
