Saturday, July 1, Continued...

My first panel on Saturday was a 'class' on coloring with Photoshop 5.
Unfortunately, it was very basic and a lot of it I'd already gone over
so I quietly snuck out half way through the class. No disrespect to the
teachers, it simply wasn't what I expected it to be.

Later in the afternoon was Paul Kidd's "Transcript to Film Script."
Chris, Capricia and I had spent the earlier parts of the afternoon
chatting and while they went to a panel on drawing hair, I went to this
one. (Note: The panel was canceled because the panalist, apparantly, was
a no-show. This frustrated Chris and Caprcia to no end, since they'd
always had trouble doing hair-styles). Bad luck seemed to follow their
panel choices. The one on shadow puppets was also canceled.

I bumped into Skates again at Mr. Kidd's panel and we talked for a bit
before the panelist himself came in with an armful of material. This
felt kinda interesting because, wayy back when at CFE2, the first panel
I attended was one of Paul's. This time around, instead of discussing
Mus of Kerbridge, he launched into the process behind getting some of
his other projects on the screen, notibly Hive.

Hive brought a few chuckles to me because getting it made involved
working with the Japanese animation industry and one person in
particular, Scott Frazier. Mr. Frazier has been a recent guest to Otakon
(the other convention in my life) and I spoke with him once or twice
(though he probably does not remember me). It seemed funny how small the
world had become. I never thought I'd hear Studio IG or Mr. Frazier
mentioned at AC...

Mr. Kidd covered a lot of territory at the panel, but he did mention a
few things like the Tank Vixen's script he'd written has been optioned
and is in pre-production stages. There are already discussions regarding
the toys and a screening has been set for Sundance. This could
be...interesting.

After the panel, Chris, Capricia and I went to Pizzaria Uno's for
dinner. We talked for a while and gorged ourselves on very good pizza.
Then Chris dropped us off at the Hotel. He had a lot of friends in his
home-town area to visit, so we said sayonara and he drove off into the
sunset. Quite literally. He went westbound on 202. :)

Capricia and I had made two decisions regarding Saturday night: First,
we'd take a nap before the adult art auction. And, second, we'd go in
Ren Faire clothes. Considering that the Faire in Virginia is now an
ex-Faire (greedy corporate slugs shut it down), and my friends don't
like the MD Faire anymore, this would be one of hte few times I could
wear the very nice doublet and boots I'd collected last year.

I was a bit unsure at first, but I'm glad I went ahead with it. Aside
from giving Capricia a chance to tell many humorous SCA stories while we
were lacing each other up, I recieved more compliments that night than I
have in...well, most of my lifetime. If there was one regret, it was
that I did not have business cards for the Chicago-based leatherworkers
that made the doublet. They would have earned quite a bit of business
that night.

Compared to last year, the adult art aucition went very smoothly. There
was one glitch where a piece was overlooked because the bid tag was
hidden by the frame of a neighboring piece, but we did our best to
resolve things. Otherwise things went very well. The most interesting
item for sale was a one-time-only color print of Wookie's comic,
featured in Furnation magazine. The comic was auctioned off one page at
a time and the bidding fluctuated depending on the page content. Or as
the artist quipped about the page which recieved the highest bid: "This
one's got the money shot." :)

It was nearing midnight. I'd hoped Caprica would be up to trying the
dance for a bit, but she was not feeling well. So I contented myself to
taking a few long-exposure photographs of the dancers. They produce some
really wierd results, like red hazes or ghostlike images. I bumped into
Dawn once more, this time decked out in her kitty suit and we got our
picture taken togetehr. (Note to self: get pictures processed).

When I headed upstairs, Caprica was already chillin' and watching Joe
Bob Briggs. I asked her to grab a few photos of me in garb, and then we
crashed. Tomorrow would be a big day.

To Be Continued...
