I know there are many lonely guys who find the internet. I know there
are lots of lonely people, period. Why, why, why, must these boys insist
on going to a nicely conversive newsgroup and shout "Where's the girls?"
as if they walked into a meat market --err, singles bar-- and just need
to announce their presence to get every dewey eyed female's head to
turn.

*sigh*

And when a few girls pop up with "We're here, but we don't like that
kind of post." the resulting posts indicate that the kid just didn't
hear that.... either they ignore the female posts entirely to wade in
pity with other lonely boys, or they respond with "I just wanna make
friends" or other innanities that show they really didn't notice nor
care *how* they got attention, as long as they got it.

Attention, lonely boys of the internet! GIRLS DON'T GO TROLLING FOR
DATES ON NEWSGROUPS! WE GO TO NEWSGROUPS TO SOCIALIZE! Get it straight!

Grump.

First off, as a male on the net I'd like to apologize for how desperate
we can get. While I'm not entirely squeaky clean in this department (I,
like many of my comrades have bemoaned the male/female desparity in
fandom) but I've never trolled UseNet for dates. Chalk it up to a thick
mix of terrified despiration, insecurity and lack of social graces.

<nod> I've seen the pattern. But, if you're desperate and weak enough
_any_ attention, even negative attention, is good attention. The irony
is that if they listened to the women who posted replies (and their
counterparts in the real world) they wouldn't be making these kinds of
posts...
