I recently replaced the high voltage transformers in my A2Xs as well as
rebuilt the voltage multiplier cards via factory stock. One of my
tweeter panels has an audible, at several feet, 60~ hum without the
amps connected. This hum immediately disappears when the speaker's
power cord is unplugged. The panel seem make a low frequency thud, like
the diaphragm popping out when voltage is increased to the crackle
point. The voltage multiplier card has the appropriate output levels
and changes values as the trim pot is adjusted so I think it and the
transformer are ok. All 3 transformers are grounded to the back plate
and I see no obvious shorts or grounds. The card is potted over with
glue from a glue gun, per Sound Labs recommendation. Anyone have any
ideas? Maybe the diaphragm is stretched? Thanks.
