I will begin restoring a tube receiver soon and would like to know if
any members of ESL forum know of methods of modifiying tube amplifiers
to run ESLs "direct drive". I have heard of schemes to safely bypass
the output transformer and power the ESLs using a transformer of a lower
ratio running directly off the output tubes. This makes a lot of sense
to me, after all, when running a tube amp, why step down the voltage
from the output tubes only to step it back up again with the ESL
transformer? The following site got me interested in the subject and
provides some information into possible schemes and results:

http://www.geocities.com/london-live/systems/LD_direct.htm

Can anyone else further elaborate on this subject? I would like more
information on how to do it and what to expect.
