My Final Decision on this Forum

After extensive consideration I have decided that I will not be
reactivating the A-2 Jacket Forum. Instead, I am encouraging
others to carry on in my place with new forums.
I have received feedback from many people representing various
different opinions, and I have come to the realization that there
is no good solution for satisfying everyone's wishes and also
assuring a civil forum. Because I take pride in my work and want
only to be personally responsible for high a quality production,
I feel that I should no longer be the host of any jacket forum.
The A-2 Jacket Discussion Forum was begun for the sole and simple
purpose to allow contact among many people with a shared interest
in flight jackets and related topics. I chose to sponsor the
forum in conjunction with the Acme Depot site and the A-2 Jacket
Web Page, but in light of the contentious direction the forum has
taken I no longer believe that this sponsorship is prudent.
The forum in its current state does not represent my ideals nor
the honor and respect which is due those heroes who wore the real
A-2 jackets. Furthermore, I just don't have the stomach for how
things have recently evolved and I have no interest in continuing
to take unfair and untrue accusations of operating a shill group.
I feel that I have successfully brought together people who
otherwise may not have had any opportunities for sharing their
passion for historical flight jackets. Many people have expressed
their gratitude for that and I am proud of the accomplishment.
Now that there is a critical mass of participants, I believe that
the best thing for me to do is to back out and let the world of
Jacketeers take over and carry on the discussions in a spawning
of one or more new forums. This will also be a great opportunity
for a move away from the unreliable Deja service.
Within Acme Depot I will continue to do jacket reviews whenever
I can get new jackets and will also continue to support the Photo
Album and Measurements page, so keep on sending me new stuff. As
new jacket forums come online I will provide links to them on Acme
Depot, and I will join in when I have something to say.
The old Deja forum messages will continue to be available at Deja.
I also plan to use the forum to post news and announcements until
I move that function to the A-2 Jacket Web Page on Acme Depot.
For those interested in starting new forums or otherwise contacting
the group as a whole, I will be glad to post messages on the Deja
forum to communicate suggestions, plans, etc.
You might be asking, "Why not just let the Deja forum keep going
even if you are no longer the host?" I have two reasons for this.
The primary reason is that I feel the need to completely
disassociate myself and Acme Depot from any forum and I don't think
that can happen as long as the Deja site is active. The second
reason is that someone will need to take over the role of host and
I just don't think any one choice will be acceptable without
controversy.
Okay, now, I've raised you from infancy and now it's time for you
to go out on your own. I'm at peace with this and I hope you can
accept my decision and accept the challenge I have passed to you.
