I am a proud new owner of my first A-2 jacket, and my love for it is
shown in this story I'm sure many of you can relate to and enjoy. I am
deep in the rural south, and it's very hot down here. I got my jacket
last week and decided I had to wear it, regardless of the weather. As
I was going into a comedy club, and gentlemen leaned out of his car
window where he was waiting in the parking lot, and asked me if he
should bring his jacket in if it was going to be cold. I said it may
be, but I'm wearing this because I just got it and want to break it
in. He chuckled because he thought that must have been ridiculous, but
it just goes to show how much I am proud to be one of many people who
wear these jackets out of respect for the men who risked, and those who
lost, their lives defending our freedom. I'm a new poster and would
like to say hello to everyone on here.

then what? I actually like the quest, the search. That's the fun. The
more lost you are, the more you have to look forward to. What do you
know? I'm having a great time and I don't even know it"

Welcome to the forum, and I'm glad to see there is someone out there
crazier than me! I wear my A-2s all summer too, but Pennsylvania is a
bit cooler than in the south! How many times have you been asked
"Aren't you hot in that thing?" or "Are you cold?!?!"?

Well, this is only day three of ownership, and I've wore it out twice,
so that so far has been the only time, but I'm expecting more.

Hi Buscuit, welcome to the ranks of A-2'dome! I have to admit that's
crazier than me, usually on hot ones I just crank up the A/C inside!
You wouldn't happen to be wearing my old Roughwear would ya!? 8>B)
You into any aviation of the historic variety?

P.S. Nice quote, where is it from?

is from Ally McBeal's pilot episode. So, how good is this forum?

Wear it buddy!! That leather is tough as nails, wear it in squalls,
gales, huricanes, freak winter storms of the century, not to mention
the open cockpit of a Stearman! Drop a load of bricks on it, give it
some character!!

Yeah, I'm into aviation history. How about yourself?

Absolutley, my passion for jackets and aviation feed off one other. So
who's your favorite WWII fighter jock?

The quote is from Ally McBeal's pilot episode.

That's pretty cool, I like it. We need a quote like that on here.

So, how good is this forum?

You'll learn a lot, just be able to sift through the hype'n hysteria.
Oh yeah, DO NOT...well, just browse through some of the recent threads,
you'll get the idea.

Welcome Biscuit,
You've come to a real treasure chest of information regarding A-2's. I
found this place about the beginning of the year. It gave me a
tremendous amount of information to use in deciding what jackets I
wanted to buy. I assume you have had a chance to look over all the good
information like the evaluations and photo gallery. Because not all of
us can try on all the jackets on the market before we buy, the advice
given on this forum is the best help most of us can get. If the
discussions get a bit passionate at times, it's because we're passionate
about the subject.

Give us some more details about your new jacket. Are you into putting
insignia, etc. on it? Don't forget you can send pictures to Marc to
post in the photo gallery.

So, how low do most of you turn down your air conditioning in the summer
just so you can wear your jacket around the house? I turn mine to about
68.

That sounds like me, 68-70 most of the time. Every now and then down
to 65 it goes, but that uses up a lot of juice, gotta watch that
electric bill-- to help pay for these things I'm wearing!!

My favorite jock? well, that would have to be the original leader of
the 9th airforce, 406th FG 512th FS. His name escapes me at the
moment. He was actually the guy who originally got their mascot, Andy
the Bulldog. They flew P-47 over Europe including the days leading up
the Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

I'm wearing this sucka like crazy. Oh yeah, when I get done, it'll
have more character then most of the people that live in this crap town
that I grew up in.

I believe it was a guy by the name of Tomlinson? It's a pretty wild
guess but I am sort of a 9th AF fan. I know there's a blurb about
"Andy" in one of the books, but all mine are packed away pending a
move. I though it was cool how a mascot ended being on those patches
and on the side of planes.

Tomlinson was the original owner of Andy, he was only a Lt. so he
wouldn't have been the group CO. There is a really nice story about
them in Maguire/Conway's book. I like the part about carrying Andy
across the channel to France in a P-47!

That's right, as always your info is refreshing string. I too enjoyed
the tell of him being transported via P-47 on the pilots shoulder.
