I have philosophical problems with wearing an original A-2 jacket; not
only because of the importance of maintaining them as history, but also
because I feel uncomfortable wearing someone's jacket who really earned
it, who was a real hero - which I am not. I feel like I'm riding the
coattails of some legitimately brave person. I have no objection to
fantasy jackets that are not exact copies, or possibly even plain old
original ones for whom the ownership is permanently lost, but the
individually decorated ones make me feel a little bit creepy, like I
was trying to aggrandize myself by association with some (probably dead
by now) flyer. The style of the jacket as regular clothing is
wonderfully stylish and classic, far better than the jackets today
which look out-of-date after a couple of years. So I wear repros, or
possibly would wear an original without a provenance.

Plaudits to you for your stand re wearing some one elses jacket.
Actually - if you could talk to that Hero -he would probably be pleased
to have you wear it; My jacket was liberated from me by a Luftwaffe
Commander since I was his prisoner - I wasn't concerned about his
wearing my original for it was pretty well worn out from 29 missions at
high altitude plus lots of ground time at the bar> Best Wwishes.
