template not changing from initial template

Hello!

I have been using the deterministic atlas feature of deformetrica. While I can get the morphing to work well from my template to the individual shapes, the estimated template does not change from the initial template supplied (which is one of my input shapes).

I have made sure that "freeze-template" is off in my optimization parameters file, and have varied the kernel width from large to small values. Varying the kernel width impacts the reconstructed shapes, but the estimated template remains the same as the initial template supplied.

Any idea on why the template shape would not be optimized? As the template shape is supposed to correspond to the "mean of the objects" if it is not changed from the initial form I would assume for this not to be the case.
