I was asked for a version that could be ran from a USB stick so here
is the first release of the U3 version.

The program is 99.9999% the same as the normal version and in fact is
built from the same source code with only two minor changes (a
different internal version name and url to check for updates) to make
it unique.

Also, for those that would like to use DeFFNet from a non U3 USB
stick: If you copy your entire DeFFNetIzer install directory to your
flash drive (USB thumb drive or any type of flash memory card) and
take it to another computer is should run without problems. You may
need to set your save and template directory but it should run.

Thanks,
Chad

Any chance of making it so that a non-U3, USB stick version of
Deffnetizer saves it's settings to a file in the app folder?

I have Utorrent, OperaUSB and PDFXChanger on my 8gb stick, but it's
not a U3 drive.
With Opera, the program runs a .bat file to check the settings and
current drive-letter, and makes appropriate changes if any are found.
It's brill- at this place I'm at ATM, it don't let me access FFN (but
I am going to attempt to do so through Deffnetizer when this settings-
saving-place thing is change, if it is. So I don't get caught! haha!
**message to the admins of the place I'm at, you know I'm just joking,
right?**

:p

and I do so dislike Internet Explorer. I have OperaUSB and about 300mb
of fanfics on the drive now.
got a few chapters of more fics to DL but Leaving it till I'm home - I
don't want deffnetizer to make any changes tot he machine i'm on. I
would get in trouble then.

If you copy your install directory containing the program to your USB
stick it should run on any computer. You will have to set the save
path in the preferences area.

Attempting to access FFNet with this program from a place that has it
blocked will not work either as the program still uses the connection
you are on to access FFNet. You could use my other site, http://www.ficsavers.com
if it isn't blocked where you are at. My web based savers don't use
your connection to access FFNet to get the story. Using my web savers
also doesn't make any changes to the computer you are on. You DO have
to be able to download a .zip and extract it but no changes are made
to the computer.

Thanks,
Chad

I wasn't even aware that fanfiction.net could block de-ffnet-izer,
that's an interesting thought.

Anyway, I wanted to chime in, I believe I've said this before, and am
interested in seeing it again. At one point, one of the version of
deffnet had it setup so that instead of pulling information from the
registry, it was pulling from a config file within the deffnet
directory. I'm not sure which version it was (if it was official or
not, but I know I had it, I still have the config file somewhere,
should that ever come up). If this was setup again, it could make the
usb drive version easier if it was using relative drive paths.

Anyway, enough from me

(going back to work)

Could you not have the program just write out a file that it stores it
configs in, and if it does not find that file it looks to the system
registry for the information?
That would make it easy to just drop it on a normal flash drive, more
so if you could have it see what Drive letter it has and assume that
the save path for fics is on the drive, if it grabs it configs from a
file in it folder.
