Subject: [rpec] Walk Against Violence June 2 / 11am
There will be a Walk Against Violence in Emporia, VA, on Saturday, June 2, at 11am.
The walk will start at Emporia Shopping Center on N. Main St. & U.S. 58, and will end at Veterans Memorial Park in Emporia.
It’s being organized by the grandparents of 11 year old Shawdell Walton, who was shot while riding her purple scooter outside her home earlier this month:
Shawdell is alive, speaking, and recognizes her family. She is however experiencing paralysis and other limitations in function, and is working on therapy and such to regain function.
Her grandfather, James Wilkins, is a personal friend of mine and others at RPEC. He is a pastor at a Richmond church that primarily serves the formerly incarcerated. He attended the auction last year with his wife and some of you may have met him there.
James Wilkins and his family in Emporia are calling this Walk to raise awareness about the epidemic of gun violence and to encourage healing and peace in the streets.
He asked me to share this invitation with peace center members. Please consider participating. For more information call James Wilkins, 757-517 5090.
James has expressed his personal desire for healing, and some positive change, to result from this terrible tragedy.
