VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO DELIVER MEALS

Hello everyone -
If you’re looking for a way to help the community during this coronavirus crisis, volunteers are needed to deliver meals to homeless folks now being housed in hotels and motels. Some are former residents of Cathy’s Camp, the tent city set up outside the city’s cold weather shelter. Ohers were not at the camp, but were also homeless.
Several organizations are delivering meals, including Blessing Warriors RVA, the all-volunteer nonprofit that supported Cathy’s Camp, and the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care, which is a collaboration between local nonprofits and city and county governments.
Helping out means picking up meals from a central distribution site and delivering them to one or more hotels or motels. You can bring the meals directly to the rooms or leave them at the front desk, whichever you are more comfortable with.
The Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality, which had been supporting Cathy’s Camp, is now participating in delivering meals and has offered to try and find more volunteers. The Continuum of Care is asking that people sign up to deliver lunch or dinner once a week. If you’re interested - and have a vehicle - please send us your name, email address, phone number and the neighborhood where you live and we will connect you.

No one knows how long this crisis is going to last, but one thing is certain: We need to look out for each other. Please let us know if you can help by delivering meals.
