Sumana - please forward this mail to the tenant's group

Dear members,

We are pleased to inform that we have recently come in touch with an organization, who is working with farmers in the Sunderban region of West Bengal, and in other parts of India as well. The farmers, will bring the organic produce, directly to us in Deeshari and sell. The following is a write-up provided to us from the organization, namely AID :-

Association for India’s Development (AID) is a volunteer organization that has been working with several grass-root organizations in the Sunderbans area since 2009. Totally there are 20,000 farmers in Sunderbans, who have transitioned to sustainable organic agriculture leaving behind the use of synthetic chemicals. Chetana Sangha is our grass-root partner working in Purba Chintamanipur in Patharpratima block with 3000 farmers in 24 villages.

Why Organic?
Sustainable organic agriculture is a method of farming without using any synthetic chemicals. Today these dangerous chemicals pervade our food system, environment and our bodies causing irreparable damage to life on this earth. Farmers use naturally available resources like cow dung, cow urine, vermicompost as fertilizers and neem, tobacco leaves, marigold, tulsi and various other techniques to keep pests away.

This form of agriculture is good for the farmers of Sunderbans as it saves money and their health
It is good for the environment. We estimated that in 8 years farmers prevented roughly 200,000 Kg of chemicals from going into the environment
It is good for the health of the people who eat it, as it prevents chemicals (some of which are really dangerous) from going into their bodies

The entire operation is non-profit. No one besides the small farmers make a profit. All profits are passed on to the farmers

Join the movement - eat healthy, support small farmers and the environment.

Please find attached a few photographs of farmers along with the price list of various available produces. Let's encourage healthy living, mainly for our children, by availing chemical free food.

The organization will send us the price list every Wednesday and will come here, the next Sunday to supply the ordered materials. We would like to start the venture from 3rd February, 2019. Please confirm your participation.

Regards,
Dibyendu Sarkar
