I saw a news story tonight on channel 11 I think it was where they were
talking about some painter who was painting serene scenery while he was
listening to sermons at the "church" across the street from me. They
contrasted his images with images of graffiti art around the area. Well
guess what! That graffiti art had more impact, more passion, and more
message in it than the little puffy clouds that this guy was painting.

We need a PR firm. The news can't be trusted to tell a story that will build
our image in a way that's not going to have the Pollyanna sorts "cleaning up
the neighborhood" which in my view will strip all of the character out of
the area.

In the lyrics of "Deep Ellum Blues":
Once I knew a preacher,
Preached the Bible through and through,
He went down to Deep Ellum,
Now his preaching days are through.

Aside from the rhyming of "through" with "through," there's some wisdom in
that classic.
