Just got back from hoofing around the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. Not a bad
turn out considering the freakishly cold weather. I popped out yesterday for
a corn dog, but it was so cold that my eyes were watering, and watery eyes
and art perusing don't mix very well.

Today was good though. It was good to see the Adam Hats clan out there
during Spoonfed Tribe. Dude, those guys beat some mean drums! Are those guys
out of UNT? I've heard a few bands with similar ingredients in the stew and
they usually seem to come from UNT. (Especially when he whipped out the jazz
flute. =)

I worked my butt off at the AFI Film Festival, so much so that I had to take
a week of hibernation with a stack of DVDs just to get my head back on
straight. Luckily I popped my head out in time to catch the festival. ;-) I
know it sounds ironic to relax with a week of watching movies after working
at a film festival, but the truth is that I didn't get to actually see ANY
of the movies all week. I got to meet Lou Diamond Phillips, Jason Mews, Ron
Livingston, and Steve Burns (Mr Blues Clues himself! LOL!). I got to edit
interviews with David Lynch and Morgan Freeman. I got to show off my edit RV
to hundreds of filmmakers from locals here in Texas, to London, Scotland,
Japan, Germany, and pretty much everywhere else. I developed a severe
addiction to sarsaparilla. And I got to see the old Deep Ellum Film Festival
gang put on a festival that NOBODY thought would be anywhere nearly as
successful as it turned out.

Word is that the American Film Institute had committed to a 3 year contract
before this started just to test out if Dallas could pull it off, but half
way through the week, it was going so incredibly well, that they opened up
that 3 year contract to an unlimited run!

I pointed a few of the film makers down to Deep Ellum for some Pepe's and
Mito's enchiladas or an Angry Dog burger. Even some Metro Diner action.

Incidentally, when these events are coming up, feel free to post the notices
to this list. I got emails about events sent to me last week when I was
staying offline and now that I'm back, it's too late to post them. If you
want to tell the neighborhood about stuff, just send it along. If this list
has to rely on ME to post everything, then it's gonna wither and die. I
can't even keep up with my own voicemail, much less be responsible for
forwarding notes about movie screenings, festivals, and gallery parties.
