Turns out that my camera actually caught the copper thief walking past
before he climbed up and started stripping my neighbor's wiring. Here's the
video clip.

Yeah, I know. I need to get a better camera than the toy POS I've got up
there right now, but that HAT! Turns out that the guy LEFT HIS HAT up on the
roof as he was running to get away. He also left a pair of pliers up there.

He's a black male in his mid 20s with a moustache. 5ft 7in tall.
Unfortunately, in the dark my camera doesn't pick up enough detail to make
out a good picture of his face. I'm looking to buy a new one as soon as I
can.

I'm just so happy to know that my camera setup has actually managed to
capture an image of the guy and it might help catch one of these guys. If
there's any reward out there, I'd totally put that money into a new camera.
=)

So the police have been sent a link to the video clip. The hat and pliers
are being handled as little as possible in case they decide to go CSI on
this. I know that pulling DNA samples from hair fibers out of a hat probably
ain't gonna happen, but those pliers have nice flat metal surfaces that
would be PRIME finger print candidates. They told me the officer who came
out last night looked at the pliers and blew off the idea of trying to get
anything off of them. Sounds like somebody must be allergic to graphite
powder if you asked me.

Hopefully with what all we have now, especially with that distinct hat, we
can get them to investigate the incident and bust this dude!

I'm tempted to notify the media on this one and get the video to the news so
they can run it, but I'll wait and give the cops a chance to take some
action first.
