I'm trying to download the appliance into Vmware Workstation 8 and I
get the following error

The import failed because C:\sdfsnas-prod-1.1.1.ovf did not pass OVF
specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Click Retry to relax OVF specification and virtual hardware compliance
checks and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import.
If you retry the import, you might not be able to use the virtual
machine in VMware Workstation.

Hi,

I had issues importing the VA directly (mine was on ESXi 5 - but I'm
hoping my suggestion helps).
I solved my issue by downloading the zipped copy and un-zipping
locally. I then imported the VA from my locally unpacked copy.
Installation went without issues.

Hope this helps.

Downloading the zip and importing worked fine (Win7/
Workstation8).....Thanks.

Once the appliance has started, it doesn't appear a web server is
running.

Hi,

Have you tried Firefox as the browser to the appliance? I had issues with IE8.

Regarding the Appliance, it will have been given a DHCP address - listed in the 1st log on screen at the appliance console. Is this address part of your PC's network? You may need to tune the VMware Workstation Virtual Network.

Are there any clues when booting up the appliance? i.e. If you use the VM Console whilst booting the OpenDeDup appliance are there any lines that don't show the Green Done?
Regards,

I've used both Chrome and IE 8

The appliance did get a DHCP address and I followed the instructions
to change this to a static address. The new static address is shown at
the login prompt. All my vms are using the Vmware Bridged network and
I can ping from the appliance to all my machines and back again,
including from the host. I've also turned off all firewalls and A/V on
the host.

I don't see any errors during boot up of the appliance, mind you its
very fast.

I ran a netstat from the appliance and I can't see anything listening
on port 80 or 443. Is this correct?

Fixed it.

I edited the /etc/hosts file and added an entry for the appliance, so
mine looks like:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 sdfsnas
192.168.0.100 sdfsnas1
<<<-----------------this is the line i added

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Nice job. You look like you solved the issue by your self. 8^)
For info though, you could of course add a static entry to your local
DNS server (or router if you don't have a local DNS server), or access
the sdfsnas1 pages by IP. This will get over the issue if another PC
on your network needs access. It can be a pain to have to edit the
Host file on each PC.

Good luck with the rest of your trial.

Best regards,
Steve B
