Hi Folks,

I need to create a plot of column chart of two groups(controls and subjects) with several categories(mean of X, mean of Y......). I am using the GUI plot builder, and I am not sure how to add a second category in the same plot. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You will need to reshape your data into "long" format. i.e. something like:
value variable group
1.1 "X" "treat"
2.2 "Y" "control"

Currently there is no way to do this by point-and-click, though it is
being worked on. You can do it with R code though. take a look at the
reshape function, or the melt function in the reshape2 package.

Best,
Ian

Helios and I have a draft reshape dialog called DeducerReshape that is available on R-Forge:

It offers a preview window to let you see how your proposes changes will impact the final data set.

Hi Bill,

Sounds great. I'm trying to run it on the most recent release of Deducer, but it seems to not open the preview window, and I get a "Cancel R Process" window with "This R process is taking some time. Would you like to cancel it?". It doesn't matter if I click "Yes" or "No", as it goes into a loop without cancelling/without processing.

Has anyone else reported this behaviour?

regards,
Kieran

Hi Bill,

Sorry for the bother, I updated R from 2.15.0 to 2.15.2 and now it's working. My bad, sorry!

best regards,
Kieran

Hi Bill,

I tried downloading DeducerReshape but I got a warning that it is not available for R 2.15.2. Not sure if this matters but my machine is Mac OS.

thannks

Yes, I think R-Forge's Mac binary builder is missing a package
necessary to build iplots on Mac, so the process hangs there.
I've alerted R-Forge, but in the mean time, you can download
And install the tar.gz source file and that seems to work fine.
Let me know if you'd like any help installing from source.

Hi all,

I need to read files that contain files names that end in an extension .00#
The to digits represent seconds and can be from 00-59 and the "#" on the
end designates it as a file type used by a dedicated program.

So file names would look like:
91141915.02#
91141918.05#
91141918.13#
91141918.26#
91141919.04#

When the data from the file is read in unless I remove the "#" from the
file name, even when the data file that includes it is designated as TXT
format it will not read the data files. Once removed it rads fine.

Is there a way around that so I can retain the full file name?
I can open the data files in Deducer once removed but to stop and open
the data files in a text editor like NoteBook++ takes time.

Hi all,

I was interested in using the DeducerReshape package but I can not seem
to find a manual for syntax and/or commands on use.

Any clues?

read.table has an argument that you need to alter (comment.char="#"),
but is is not accessible from the data import dialog. I suggest that
you either try and get the read.table call right manually, or save the
data as an excel file and import it that way.

Hi, Ishmael,

To install from source on a Mac, you first need to make sure you have the necessary software to do it.  This article recommends installing XCode from the Apple Developers site.  Once you do that, you navigate in Terminal to the directory where you've downloaded the .tar.gz file.  Then type:

NOAWT=1 R CMD INSTALL DeducerReshape_0.3.tar.gz

That should install the package.  Then you just need to run the JGR launcher and load the package.  I designed DeducerReshape to be used with DeducerANOVA but can't remember if there are explicit dependencies from Reshape to ANOVA.  You may need to also install DeducerANOVA.  I've got a long list of bugs to iron out and little time to iron them, but please do let me know what improvements you'd like and I'll put them on my list.

Hi, Bruce,

No manual so far, but I do have an online tutorial that I use for my class.  You can start with this page:

and it should give you the basics.
