Hi everyone,

I installed some updates last night, running OS X 10.8.4, and now when I open JGR, the menus and buttons are non-responsive and I have to force-quit.

Anyone else have this issue or know what it could be?

Thanks much.

Yes, same issue here, after the two java security updates, one released by Apple the other by Oracle
I am on Mac Os 10.8.4, R 3.01, JGR 1-15, deducer 0.7-6

I found a preliminary fix. Downloading the current JDK as a dmg from Oracle restored the responsiveness of the menu and brought back the full functionality of the buttons.
Please be careful, when selecting the downloadable java versions, the complete JDK 7 is required, JRE is not sufficient.
When I open JGR by double clicking on the JGR icon, it displays an RJavaClassLoader instead of JGR.
That is still a bit strange, but at least I am back in business and able to continue to work with deducer until somebody comes up with a better solution.

Wouldn't like be without deducer, which is a great GUI and has become an indispensable tool to me when working with R. I really appreciate what Ian Fellows has done here for the R community.
Many thanks to Ian.

Hi everyone

here is a fix to the problem. Apple has just released an amended java update 2013-004 which corrects this java issue and restores responsiveness for JGR.

The update may be downloaded via the above link and manually installed.
After updating you may want to check your java version to make sure you have the correct version running that ends with ...M4509.
Build ...M4508 is broken, ...M4509 works.

java version "1.6.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-456-11M4509)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-456, mixed mode)

This only applies when using Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) together with apple java 1.6.
Snow Leopard (10.6) or oracle java 1.7 are different.

rudolf,

Thank you for exploring this. It turns out that Apple broke every Swing app with that update! Luckily, all users should now be getting the updated version unless they upgraded before the updated patch was released in which case they will need to do it manually.

Regarding Oracle's Java... Markus has edited the launcher to get rid of the RJavaClassLoader designation, and I've made some edits to fix some other bugs (e.g. because the vendor wasn't Apple, some parts of JGR failed to recognize that we were in a Mac environment). I hope to push these through soon.

Expect these updates in the near future.

Best,
Ian

Ian,

Where can I download the launcher with the updates (the ones that Markus did)?

Best,

Manuel
