Dede!! i was so excited when i received my SEVEN SPICES the other
day! I couldn't WAIT to open it and take a whiff!! Smells DIVINE!!
Now I can't wait to USE it!!

I didn't realize they were homemade, so when you originally mentioned
the SEVEN spices, i thought i could purchase it from a store (i live
in NY and have access to everything). But when i got to the store,
they offered whole garam marsala and told me that was the same thing.
I have that already.

Is your seven spices a secret recipe??

Seven spices is very different than marsala. My seven spice mix is a
special mix that we use in our recipes. There are many stores that
offer the seven spice mix, some brands are good and some use different
spices in the mix. The best place to purchase Mediterranean/Middle
Eastern spices is at a Mediterranean or Arabic store.

HAPPY COOKING!

Does this mix vary by region? I never knew about this until a Turkish
waiter at a restaurant I frequent told me about it. I found a 7 spice
mix from my local Arabic grocery store; it smells like cumin and seems
like it would make excellent kofte but was wondering if the mixture
can be different or if it is based on the same spices.

Thank you!

De... I found a great Mediterranean store in Brooklyn, named Madina.
He had a 'form' of Seven Spices, but he named his homemade bin All
Spice. It did smell quite similar to yours. He also had homemade
Sumac that smelled Wonderful. He was very impressed when i named the
dishes i wanted to make. I made the kebobs the other day and am
making it again tonight because I just had plain ground beef the first
time, but now have the additional meat to add to my beef. I made the
brown rice last night and added chicken boiullon powder and had to
MAKE myself stop nibbling off of it. I coupled this with a spinach
stew from another site I found with Med dishes.

Here in New York, the street vendors make a killing on lamb over rice,
chicken over rice, Mediterranean style. Their meat has an orangey
color and smells so good when it is cooking. I was wondering if one
of your meat dishes is the same as what they are selling. I need to
make one of your dishes so I can figure out if it's what we call here
'street meat'.

The garlic sauce thickened in the fridge and was quite good. I had it
all eaten up by the time i saw your suggestion of adding seven spices.
LOL

Thanks so much for your help.

PS: I would like to see you make coconut rice. I know that is an
indian dish, but just wanted to make a request.

thanks Dede

THe spice does differ a little bit by region, sometimes they switch
out 1 or 2 of the spices for other ones. If you found a 7 spice mix
give it a try, if you don't like it you can always or my 7 spice mix
from my website :)

HAPPY COOKING!

I love the street carts that sell the sandwiches and meat with rice, I
LOVE NEW YORK!!! I'm so glad you've been trying my recipes, I've
been a bit busy but I will be making more videos soon and I know
you'll love those too! Check out my shish tawook chicken recipe for
that "orangey" chicken, add about 1/2 cup of yougurt to it too and it
will taste just like the street vendors. It goes great with garlic,
rice and tabouli. I will ask around for a good coconut rice recipe.

HAPPY COOKING!
