Hi,

I am curious if Dedalus 3 still supports compound bases by stacking multiple segments?
There is a section about that in the tutorials of Dedalus 2, but that section is no longer present in the tutorials of Dedalus 3.

Thanks,

Yi-Min

Hi Yi-Min,

Compound bases are not implemented in Dedalus 3 in the same way as in Dedalus 2, but you can still use that functionality. You can make multiple Chebyshev bases and define separate fields that depend on those bases. When you set up the problem, you need to write out equations for each of the fields separately, and also include matching conditions at the interfaces. This takes a work than in Dedalus 2, but is also more flexible. We’re working on streamlining this for Dedalus 3.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the clarification. That is kind of what I guessed. Is there a simple example in the respository showing how this is done?

Hi Yi-Min,

I’ve attached one of my scripts that does this.
