If you believe that a bedroom should be a personal haven designed for
recharging, reconnecting and romance, read on. Just by incorporating a
few decorative tips, you can have the romantic bedroom haven of your
dreams.
1. Color It Romantic
Red is the color of passion and doses of red, whether on the walls, or
in accessories, will heat up the atmosphere. If your room is smaller
and would seem claustrophobic if all walls were painted in deep red,
try deep red on a focal wall and a lighter complementary shade on
another wall. Or choose a neutral shade of taupe for the walls, and
accent with red in the bedding and bedding accessories. A neutral
shade on the walls gives you the option of creating a room accented by
any color, from passionate red to sophisticated blue or soothing
green.
2. Bedding Choices: Make it Luxurious and Inviting
Choose bedding fabrics and patterns that appeal to you and your
partner. While romantic floral patterns often appeal to women, they
can feel too 'frilly' for many men, and your most important
consideration is to choose bedding that is soft, luxurious and
inviting. Compromise with subtly patterned bedding made from sumptuous
fabrics like satin, velour and micro suede. Layer textured patterns
that pull the ensemble together with repeated colors and shapes,
contrasting accents, and distinctive fabrics in a combination of
pillow shams, comfortable throws and throw pillows. Add a bed skirt to
complete the look and hide any items stored under the bed. Don't skimp
on sheets. High thread-count sheets make every night as luxurious as a
get-away in a five-star hotel and are well worth the price.
3. Set the Mood with Candle Wall Sconces and Fragrant Candles
Soft candlelight is an easy-to-add accessory that adds instant
romance. Group fragrant candles on a mirrored tray set on a bedside
table or dresser and add more drama with elegant candle wall sconces.
They can be used to create a romantic focal point above the bed or
placed where their sparkle can be reflected in a mirror. Fragrant
candles add another layer of sensuality in pleasing scents like
vanilla, musk, honeysuckle or sandalwood.
4. Soften the Edges with Elegant Window Treatments
Look to your bedding and accessory choices and choose window
treatments that complement those fabrics. Sheer panels that puddle on
the floor create a soft cloud like atmosphere. For a full looking
treatment, the width of combined panels should equal two to three
times the width of the window. Top off the panels with a decorative
rod and scarf valances that let you create many looks. They can be
draped from a rod, woven around the rod, layered, arranged in graceful
scallops or displayed in wide or narrow swaths to suit your mood.
5. A Wall Mirror will Create Romantic Appeal
A wall mirror will make the room feel brighter and more spacious and
the wide array of styles available will help you accessorize your
chosen style. From crystal encrusted frames, to beveled glass,
elaborate wood carvings or textured stone, you will find a wall mirror
that is a perfect complement to your room.
6. Consider Soft and Luxurious Throw Rugs for a Romantic Bedroom
Don't forget to add some luxury under foot when creating an inviting
retreat. Even if the room is carpeted, a soft thick area rug will
accent the decor, add color and interest to the room and provide
another layer of wonderful romance.
