ryuheechul Thanks for your reproduction steps! It seems that indeed installation only doesn't work when opening the store via a deeplink instead of from the extension menu. ? Opening the store from the extension menu and then searching for the extension and installing it from there seems to indeed work as it should.
Hi
I am not sure if I do something wrong or something has changed. ? But lately if I try to download a extension from Google chrome web store I get redirected to download Google chrome browser. If its a bug okay but if I do something wrong please let me know what to do.
For new developers, it generally takes a few months to become trusted. Eventually, we strive for all developers with compliant extensions to reach this status upon meeting our developer program policies.
I am trying to install a free extension in Google Chrome, but whenever I click "Add To Chrome", I am asked to sign in to a Google account. This has never happened before, and I do not want to use an account just to install an extension. This problem is occurring for all extensions. How can I install extensions without signing in?
Extensions will show up as "not from Chrome Web Store" in chrome://extensions/, and I'm not sure to my experience they will not update automatically (you will have to repeat steps 2-4 of the "Install process" to do that manually).
More hints can e.g. be found here. I didn't install this extension as I didn't want direct ties to Google; if you don't care about that, installing the Chromium Web Store extension might make the process much easier for you if you're on Chromium.
What if I want to run non-web store extensions? Advanced users can continue to use our Dev & Canary channels to run any extension. Please note that these channels are updated very regularly, and may contain features and bug fixes that are actively being developed.
Chrome is completely useless for me if I can't install extensions. I will not create a google account just so I can download from the chrome store. This looks much more like forcing millions of Chrome users to create google accounts than actually do anything about security.
I'm trying to create a list of multiple forced extensions. I got it to the point that the plist includes multiple extensions by adding additional extension IDs to the Extension Install Forcelist in the form editor, but only end up with one of the extensions forcibly installed. At some point I realized that it seems to only accept the first ID in the list.
I could not, however, figure out how to configure the JSON to accept multiple extension IDs, which may be the problem?
eg, the json:
Caveat being that I can more easily mass edit the XML or JSON of a group of extensions to be installed / allowed / denied in the Jamf Pro config profile editor than in Google Workspace... but that's usually a set once, occasionally modify one or two items type thing so you're still probably better off generally doing it through Workspace Admin.
or, Open the extensions list in Chrome; tick the Developer Mode tick box and then click the arrow next to the extension you want to deploy - the extension ID will be underneath the extension's heading.
As you can see, adding extensions to Chrome and other Chromium browsers like Brave is easy. But while they can unlock great new features, they can also have unwanted side effects. Below are two to consider.
Every extension needs your permission to run in your browser. And some will request access to what your browser sees. That means potentially private information like purchase history, credit card info, and account numbers. Be sure to only use trustworthy, reputable browser extensions.
An extension is a small software program that can be installed to give added functionality to the Vivaldi browser. Extensions allow you to further customise and enhance your usage of the browser and range from social media tools to privacy-related features such as ad-blocking.
Because Vivaldi is built using the Chromium web browser project, extensions available in the Chrome Web Store can also be installed in Vivaldi. In some instances, extensions built for the Chrome browser will behave differently when installed in Vivaldi, but for the most part your favourite Chrome extensions will work just fine in Vivaldi.
To hide or show an extension on the Address Bar, right-click on the extension and select Hide Button/Show Button. Use the Show/Hide hidden extensions toggle button on the right to view hidden extensions. To view hidden extensions in a drop-down menu instead of expanding the Address Bar (compare the images below), go to Settings > Address Bar > Extension Visibility and tick the box for Expand Hidden Extensions to Drop-Down Menu.
I have a related question. I use a stand alone license on a Windows laptop. My laptop broke and I am setting up a brand new laptop. I have the 1P Windows app working fine on my standalone license. I installed what I believe is the new Chrome extension and it is forcing me to sign into my account with email, secret key and master password. Since I have a standalone license I do not have a secret key. How can I get this new Chrome extension to work?
Based on this thread here, it appears Touch ID integration is in the works. And point #2 is explained in your response when you say the chrome extension "is a standalone extension that does not connect to the desktop app (yet)".
How can I have both?? If I launch the desktop app, I'll get 1Password in the system menu bar, but it doesn't persist. If I go to 1Password in the menu bar I get an unwanted nag to remove 1Password and install 1Password classic.
I have this configuration on my device (1Password in the browser and the desktop app), and I can still use 1Password in the system menu bar. The extension you use does not matter for that, you just need to have the 1Password desktop app installed (since 1Password mini is coming from the desktop app, not from the extension).
Cool, thanks DB! I guess my question was less complete than it should have been. My problem seems to arise from the fact that my chrome profile syncs - i.e., all browser addons and settings sync cross-platform on Chrome. So it seems that I need to have a browser plugin that will function with 1Password 7 on Mac and 1Password?? on Windows. I currently have 8.5 on Windows, and would prefer to keep that, but if that's not possible how can I find which version of 1Pass will allow me to use the same browser addon cross-platform like this?
One method requires a new folder on the file server and a group policy which changes the location for a users %temp% and %tmp% locations. This is needed because UPD's create a junction which chrome cannot write to when it tries to access the users %AppData%\temp folder.
@michaelketting : For me that would be also a very good option. At the moment, i disabled all extensions with an exception to those, i allow. With that, installation from other store are not possible. I know, workaround, but for me, it works so far.
Yikes, that's not something I even thought about or tested. With Google Chrome, we do have a couple of forced extensions set up, and I know we will need to carry at least one over to New Edge once we deploy that. If the forced extensions won't work without the user manually enabling extensions from other stores, that could be a show stopper for us when it comes to getting users to move from Chrome to New Edge. Has anyone already tested this? If not, I can later.
updateURL (optional) is the address of the Update Manifest XML document for the app or extension. If you don't set the updateURL, it is assumed that the extension belongs to Microsoft Store. If you want to install an extension from the Chrome Web Store, please provide the Chrome Web Store update URL:
Anyone else doing this should be aware that this changes the extension ID's, which can lead to problems with extensions that use Native Messaging (e.g. KeePassXC-Browser) - in this case you'd have to add the correct extension ID into the Native Messaging JSON file as an allowed source.
This extension helps you create browser automations in Google Chrome. You can install this extension in multiple ways, as shown below: Install From UiPath Studio Open Studio.Navigate to Home > Tools > UiPath Extensions. Select Chrome >...
Instead of trying all methods mentioned above, please go to Chrome webstore directly, and remove Uipath extension from chrome and then add it again directly from web store itself.
