css vs scss

Forgive my potentially silly question. Can I safely ignore the .scss files? I've been modifying some of the .css files and not paying attention to the .scss files (mostly because I don't really know what to do with them). Thanks for any assistance.

If you're just tweaking the CSS for your own presentations you can
completely ignore them. They are SASS files (http://sass-lang.com)
and I only ask that anyone submitting a patch or contributing to the
project use them.
