Hi,

I have access to a couple Nikon SLR cameras, and would really like to try out stereo 3D capture right away... Is there any way to do that?

Should I switch my source repo to the decapod-0.4 tag? (Having a bit of trouble doing that right now using mercurial... also worried that that version won't like the Nikon cameras...)

Or is there some bleeding-edge code I can try out, or some command-line way to do it in 0.5?

Many thanks in advance, thanks also for your work on this, greetings,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for emailing the group!

Decapod 0.4 did not support Stereo 3D capturing and supported only a small set of Nikon and Canon cameras. Decapod 0.4 did support capturing, but in a simple "Capture Left Page, Capture Right Page" configuration.

Decapod 0.5 had the capturing code removed since the GUI development was taking a different direction. However camera capture will be back very soon (possibly in Decapod 0.7).

We are developing two different 3D capturing methods for Decapod accessible via command line: Stereo 3D, and the other is Structured Light. At least one of these will be adapted to have a GUI, and if time allows we can possibly adapt both methods.

The exact availability of these new features has not yet been determined but we expect them before end of November.

I hope this answers your questions.

By the way, what camera(s) are you using?

Take care,

- Jon.

Ah, OK. I didn't realize that.

Great! We'd love to try them out as soon as you have something vaguely
tryable. I do some programming (though I haven't used Python much) so if
it would be at all useful to you, and if it's possible, we'd be happy to
try things out before the UI is finished, using any non-GUI interface
that may exist.

Yeah, thanks a bunch!

We have access to a Nikon D3100 and a D5100, and boxes with recent
versions of Ubuntu and Debian mixed testing/unstable.

I work at a small history and social sciences research center in Mexico
City. At work, we often need to digitize books... and I'm interested in
this for personal reasons, too.

Another quick question: what sort of projector would be used for the
Structured Light method?

Many thanks again, take care,
Andrew
