How can I obtain a catalog of mixed stars more efficiently?

Dear DECaLS Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am currently conducting research in the field of deblurring mixed-star , and I am seeking a large dataset of star images, specifically those that contain stars obscured by other stars, for testing my deblendermodel. At present, I am using the q3c_radial_query(ra, dec, 0.000364) function, which is intended to filter out stars within a 4-pixel radius of the target star. However, through experimentation, I have found that the retrieved mixed-star images do not always meet the expected conditions, as some of them do not appear to contain contaminating stars. I would like to understand why this approach sometimes fails to retrieve the desired images with overlapping stars. Are there any other more effective methods or queries that can be used to obtain star images with contaminating stars for my research? Any guidance or recommendations you could provide would be immensely helpful for my ongoing study.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.
 Best regards!

Hi,

Can you please give at least one example of this working correctly (where it finds what are you looking for) and at least one example where it fails?  RA,Dec coordinates would be most useful.

You also didn't say which catalog you are querying.  I presume you are using the NOIRLab Astro Data Lab.

My guess is that you should restrict to Gaia stars, and search for nearby pairs of Gaia stars, because Gaia will be better able to correctly resolve then than the Legacy Surveys ground-based imaging will.

All the Gaia stars appear in the Legacy Surveys catalogs.

cheers,
dustin
