I have a few instances and the only location to find cloudwatch is by
clicking menu from the main menu. This then displays the cloudwatch
for a single instance but doesn't say which or give you a way to
switch.

How does this work? How do I know what instance I am watching from the
app or from the widget?

Thanks!

hi,

thanks for purchasing, and using :)

currently we show cloudwatch for the entire region, as far as i know this also includes RDS. so if you click cloudwatch you see the average over everything of the region you are currently 'viewing'. this is the same for the app and the widget.

in the future we want to be able to configure cloudwatch, to pick the metrics you want to watch. if we have that we can implement multiple widgets. if we have that we can also implement thresholding and alerts based on cloudwatch metrics.

what other use do you see for cloudwatch in decaf?

Thank for the explanation Jurg.

An average makes sense. I am more interested in just my database
server stats. The webservers have low usage and that would lower the
overall average, for example a database server could have 100% usage
(meaning there is a problem and I would like to be able to see this)
but if the two websevers are 5% usage we have an average of 36% CPU
usage and that tells me nothing.

I was imagining having multiple widgets, possibly just cpu so I could
put one for each server on my homescreen...

Also is there a reason why there isn't a cloudwatch button on the
homescreen, versus using the menu button to access cloudwatch?

Thanks!

thanks for the feedback, very welcome and very helpful!

we are thinking along the same lines :) we are also using RDS for some customers, and these metrics are very important, especially in the beginning and around changes in infrastructures. another important service we use ELB, and we would like to see that in a widget too. we are not ready for all this yet, because it means we need other assets in decaf too.

there is not apparent reason it is not on the homescreen, other than that it reflect the way we thought about building this. if we are able to use multiple metrics, or widgets, it makes sense to make 'cloudwatch' available from the dashboard. thanks for asking, it opened my eyes :)

groet,
jurg.
