Dear Friends,

Meet us at Kilombo tomorrow at 3:15!!!

We are writing to ask you to come out tomorrow to the second meeting regarding Old North Durham Park.

E-mails and newspaper articles that have been circulated and published over neighborhood association listservs and local media have tried to paint the issue of OND Park as one in which El Kilombo stands alone in opposing the Central Park School For Children/Friends of Old North Durham Park's (and the financial interest behind them) attempt to distort the public process and usurp our public resources. Despite the fact that El Kilombo has been viciously defamed and attacked for participating in defending the most basic rules of democratic process (we have been called a"hate group,"..."more dangerous than the KKK") we well know that we are but one part of a broad coalition of concerned neighborhood and city residents who won't stand for this (Durham Coalition for Urban Justice).

But our coalition needs your help, as at this second meeting we would like to again show that there is much broader concern among Durham residents for the future of the park and for the precedent that this park planning process has set for the effective privatization of our city's public resources. We have no intention of being confrontational at this meeting,
rather, we hope to further inform the public regarding our neighborhood's desire for a full size athletic field and CPSC/FONDP's efforts to impede those desires.

If you would like to show your support for our coalition we ask that you meet us at El Kilombo (324 W. Geer St.) tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:15 and that you bring any and all friends who might be interested for a brief review of the troubling aspects of this process and of the current situation of the park. We will go from there to the meeting at the Durham County Library.
