Keyboard issue

The backslash stroke key on my keyboard has suddenly started producing accordingly the symbols <> . Fortunately I also use Russian and under that keyboard they work fine. I have removed the EN-US keyboard and added it back, but same thing.

I'm using Gnome and in the settings for the keyboard you have push a button to see the keyboard layout. In the layout, the keys show up as a backslash and stroke.

In ideas on how to fix this?

Ok this issue was fixed by issuing the command:

sudo setkeycodes 56 43
