Starting the X environment after installation

hi,

Have installed Debian: i invariably get to the login and password
step, once i do that, no X environment starts. how can i activate it?
Asyou can seei am a newbie, thanks for your help.

Well, depending on what pakages were installed with the system you can
try startx, or kde if you installed that. If the xserver starts and
hangs hit ctrl+alt+backspace.
