I installed woody and the installation procedure didn't find my nic
(even though previous installations of RH, Mandrake and Slackware had
no problems finding it).

After the installation (which obviously didn't go well since it
couldn't upgrade any packages), I configured the network manually by
editing the resolv.conf and interfaces files. I then modprobed tulip,
typed ifup eth0 and it worked. However, it didn't work on reboot. So,
I added tulip to my modules file, ifup-ed again and was off an
running. Unfortunately, the interface still wasn't up after the
reboot. Finally, I added an "up" line in my interfaces file but it
still won't work.

What am I missing?
