YMF753-S woody 2.4.18

bought myself a sony vaio notebook.....

installed woody with kernel 2.4.18 on it..

managed to get everything up and running

but the sound system does not work ...

are there any known problems with the YMF753-S

or should i rather look closely at my notebook and its settings..

i enabled the following modules using modconf ....

ac97_codec + Yamaha YMF7xx PCI audio (native mode)
opl3 + Yamaha FM synthesizer (YM3812/OPL-3) support
sound + OSS sound modules
soundcore + Sound card support
uart401 - Yamaha OPL3-SA1 audio controller
ymfpci - Yamaha YMF7xx PCI audio (native mode)

im not even able to access /dev/sound ...
