Does anyone know where I can get the ethernet adapter for a laserwriter select
360? I don't think they're made anymore.

One could put ethernet on the printer, but it didn't come standard, and I never
got around to buying one. I don't think Linux supports LocalTalk so I have to
try ethernet.

Also, is it possible to print to one of these printers from Linux via appletalk?
I don't think it understands lpr protocols.

If it supports LocalTalk then any LocalTalk<->EtherTalk bridge would
work. I've seen them new for ~US$100 (but haven't looked recently).
Also you could get an old Mac II running Mac OS 7.x with an Ethernet
card and run Apple's free-as-in-beer LaserWriter Bridge on it - might be
cheaper.

Sure, install netatalk and look at the pap man page. There are a few
sites around the web that will walk you through setting it up so that
LPR prints to it using pap too.

I print pretty successfully to an HP laserjet 2100 (1200dpi!) using pap.
The 2100 does not have ethernet - it is connected through an asante
"AsanteTalk" localtalk to ethernet converter.

Instead of going through the lpr setup, it is possible to simply issue a
command something like this to send a postscript file to the laser
printer:

pap myfile.ps -p "My laser writer"

Where the name of the printer is the apple talk printer name, as
reported by the nbplkup program. (I think it is a -p option; I'm not at
a netatalk-enabled machine at the moment.)
