Hi,

check out

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/SciTech/SAGE

It seems that finally on the Fedora end things are moving it. And look
at the this comment about Symmetrica:

"Symmetrica This will be a challenge because upstream didn't really
design it to be distributed at all. "

Not that I share that feeling, but it might be good to get the Debian
improvements upstream or at least share them with the Fedora folks.

Cheers,

Michael

I did send my makefile to the symmetrica upstream a few months ago, but I
don't think there's been a symmetrica release with it. I will post a note
on the Fedora wiki regarding the Debian packages, since I do have a number
of patches that are not yet merge upstream that will likely be of use to
them.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hmm, well, I would, if the account I just registered for with the Fedora
Account System allowed me to log in to their wiki...

I'm going to be offline for the next few days, but I guess I will try
again when I return.

I also registered and account and then failed to log in once I changed
my password. Hopefully it will just take time for my password to work.

I forgot to mention that Mike Hansen is looking into implementing the
algorithms we use from Symmetrica natively in Sage/Cython over the
winter break, so we might be removing Symmetrica from Sage sooner than
I had planned :)

I emailed them to inquire about this, and apparently you have to sign
their contributor license agreement before you can post to their wiki.
Ugh.

Well, they've now fixed the error message in response to my complaint.
Still, I think it is extremely obnoxious that Fedora requires you to sign
their Contributor License Agreement before you can post things to their
wiki; in particular, it looks like the agreement needs to be signed on
paper...

Yeah, I agree.

By the way: One of the people working on the Sage packaging to FC is
from UW and he also hangs out in #sage-devel. So hopefully we can get
some exchange going here.

Cheers,

Michael
