Good afternoon!

We have been working with Debezium and recently stumbled upon an issue with our implementation.

Our Oracle database servers have multiple log destinations (log_archive_dest_1, log_archive_dest_2, log_archive_dest_3, etc.). Every month we switch over the instances to standby DB instances and the archive log destinations may change.

When we switch from instance 1 to 2, the archive destination changes from log_archive_dest_1/3 to log_archive_dest_2.

It looks like there is an option to set the archive log file destination in the Oracle source connector. However, it looks like only destination is allowed.

Is there anyway to specify a list of valid destinations? It sounds like it picks the first destination that results from a query when there is none specified in the parameter.

Thanks for the help!
Justin

Hi -

Unfortunately the connector currently only supports a single destination name, but I can certainly see making it allow for multiple values in a precedence-driven order. Could you raise a Jira issue [1]?

And just understand, and we'll document it as such, with such a change that setting the property with multiple values and if the DBA team chooses to use a destination that's on that list with a higher precedence without your knowledge, then the connector will use those files, even if that destination has a significantly shorter retention policy. So you may find yourself needing to change the configuration regardless should this come to pass.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for working on this!

I have tested this out, and it looks like it's not going to work for our use case. I have created another Jira with some additional details: https://issues.redhat.com/browse/DBZ-9622

I really do appreciate the support and your work on this issue regardless of if you are able to help or not!
