Wolves are opportunists. They test their prey, sensing any weakness or vulnerability through visual cues and even through hearing and scent. Contrary to ambush predators that rely on the element of surprise and a short and intense burst of energy to secure their prey, wolves are endurance or coursing predators. They chase their prey, often over longer distances, sometimes even a few miles, in order to find the right animal or opportunity. On the hunt, wolves work together with certain individuals typically carrying out their specific role in the hunt, often based on age, gender and social standing.

The player can initiate ambush mode in any game world by pressing and briefly holding down the key. Doing so will cause the wolf avatar to lie down, and a unique music track will play to indicate that ambush mode is now active. If on-screen instructions are followed when they appear, the player can temporarily deal high damage to passing beavers.

Currently, only beavers are vulnerable to ambush damage. It will have no effect if it is used against other prey such as ungulates or hares, nor will it work against any competitors. Whether this is set to change or be expanded to include other animals over time is unknown.

Most inputs, such as movement or or the left analog stick of a controller will immediately cancel ambush mode. If the player is near valid targets and is not in ambush mode, or does not hold (controller or ) when instructed to do so, ambush-prey that comes within close proximity will not pass by. Instead, they are quickly alerted to the player's presence and will immediately turn and flee.

Much like sleeping and resting, ambush mode cannot be triggered whilst standing in water. Similarly, although they share the same laying down animation, resting is not a substitute for ambush mode. Resting instead of waiting in ambush mode will still cause prey to become aware of the player's presence. However, if the player is sleeping close to a trail, it is possible to quickly enable ambush mode after waking if the prey itself has not come within range to detect and flee from the player-wolf. The player can initiate ambush mode even if their wolf is resting. Make sure to listen for the change of music if prey is on its way!

Wolves are not dumb. They devise ingenious hunting strategies. A pack of six will break up. Two wolves will drive the doomed deer into an ambush set up by the others. Or again, one wolf will grab the nose of a huge, furious moose. The moose will begin flinging the wolf about, a life-threatening joy ride. Meanwhile his or her packmates bite flank and belly until the unfortunate ungulate loses too much blood to continue. (Did humans with spears happen along and help out?)

Bright and early in the morning of September 7, 1864, I started, and with four teams, picket-rope, howitzer, and provisions, taking the boxes off the wagons, and driving with only the running-gear, I started as nearly as I could direct in the line, crossing South Platte, going a little up the east valley of Pole Creek, and bearing off to the right so as to go through the hills. There was a sort of knob on the east side at the junction of the two valleys of Pole Creek and South Platte. We went around to north and west of this mound. It occurred to me that I would ride up to the top of this knob, which was a very conspicuous lookout, and see what sort of a place it was. When I got up there I found the top of it covered with water-washed gravel, some of it very large pebbles, and others smaller, as if at one time the river or the creek had washed over it, and it had been a stream-bed. I found a pile of "chips," and little light stuff that had been used in the making of a fire, and I found indications that the Indians had been there recently. This gave me an impression, for I saw that it was a signal station for the Indians, with preparations for use.

We had gotten a good early start. We stopped at one place and let the horses rest, and pick up what they could of the dried buffalo-grass, and then pushed ahead. We struck the upper breaks of Ash Hollow, and the sun was nearly setting. We went down upon an old piece of trail which was badly washed out, and saw trees scattered on both sides of the Hollow -- an excellent place for ambuscades. We drove the wagons two abreast, and the men were deployed all out to the right and left, so that we might not run into an ambush. I went with a bugler in the advance, and we finally emerged out on the plain of the North Platte with a great deal of relief, and went clear out far from the hills, so that we could not be troubled.

Coming down Ash Hollow we saw a great number of deer, and in the valley were a great number of antelope, and wolves without limit. As each wolf can make as much noise as ten wolves ought to make, the chorus, after dark, began. It must have been after ten o'clock before we rolled up in our blankets. Each man had his saddle-blanket and accouterments all in a pile by itself, and the horses were on the inside of our extemporized corral. We fixed it so that each man would know where he was to go in case of an alarm, and we went to sleep pretty close to each other. I slept on the outer line, about twenty feet from my men.

Take the path slowly to deal with each new ambush as it comes to you, and watch out for Interior Ministry Soldiers coming down the path head to join the fray - and use the ledges above the path to get away if you need to. Be sure to check at the end of the road for Adamantite Scrap before the path heads upwards.

Buggy appears to love eating and drinking, as he frequently engages in parties and banquets with his crew.[48][35][3] When he was in Level 4 of Impel Down, he wanted to go with Luffy to break into the kitchen, and Galdino was forced to stop him from heading into an obvious ambush.[49]
