Ups, I guess I did something wrong. I have searched in Google for "nvidia multiarch" and I have found and then used this command "sudo apt-get install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386". There was some info about conflicting kernel modules, and now the X server does not start. I have also tried this command "nvidia-xconfig" but it didn't help...
Chessmaster 10th Edition. Here's the demo. I simply can't get it to work with 64-bit Q4OS and NVIDIA drivers--Wine cannot initialize DirectX. You can see what I've already tried if you read my previous posts.
Assuming you now have the correct nvidia drivers installed 32bit and 64 bit - sorry I don't have an nvidia based machine to follow that through.
If you do not have have winetricks installed, so just do 'sudo apt-get install winetricks' in a terminal.
Once installed run 'winetricks d3dx9_36' in terminal
That should download and install directx_feb2010_redist.exe from Microsoft
I hope that fixes your issue.
If you need to install other components there is a gui for winetricks. Run 'winetricks --gui' in terminal
Click OK assuming you're using one default wine install.
Then click button Install Windows dll
You'll see a whole list of goodies and DirectX9 features in there.
dsdx9_36 seems to be the starting point for the problem you are seeing.
Not sure I can completely agree that Wine doesn't work properly - I'm using it without any pain but my needs are modest. Also do remember that Crossover is a commercial application - I've been using it for years on both PC and MAC and it is very good.
I know the Q4OS Team is busy, but could please just check whether the Chessmaster 10 Demo would launch on 64-bit Q4OS with proprietary NVIDIA drivers (the problem does not seem to affect nouveau drivers, and I'm not sure if 32-bit systems are affected).
What is bizarre is that if I use a normal hard drive it works OK - if I use an SSD it doesn't. By the same token if I use an SSD then I have to enable wireless after boot through rc.local whereas it works OK on a spinner.....
@q4os_user
'q4wine' is nice piece of software and does it's job pretty well. Nonetheless, you could find useful 'playonlinux' too - . You can install 'playonlinux' from default Q4OS repositories.
Thanks, this has fixed q4wine path issues, but Chessmaster 10 still does not run. Hmm... I think I need to test NVIDIA drivers even more thoroughly. However, so far I have not noticed anything unusual, except these Wine problems.
I have a emachines el1300g-02w which runs horribly slow, maybe I should have asked this question before I took action but I gave the pc to someone yesterday to upgrade it to windows 10 and add more ram so that it can run faster especially with MMO games. The guy then told me that there was no slot to put the GPU in nor a PCI slot, but he can still upgrade and clean the system. Did I make a good decision?
Hello guys thank you for all your tips! I made up my mind and it's best if i bought a new laptop, since upgrading ram wouldn't help with game performance like the fps. So I've been thinking of the pipo w9s. I checked the specs and this laptop seems perfect.
Teion this is an old system adding ram will help but not increase your video chipset output the system is 32bit and as such any upgrade in memory will be limited by that. To actually speed up the system you should be looking at a SSD to replace the hard drive . Improving the machine with a upgraded video card will not be possible without a PCI slot . Downloading the latest driver for the onboard chipset which is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE not a gtx 690 may help a bit . That being said we here on the ifixit forum love to fix whatevers broken and keep things going but if you really want to use this computer to play MMOs I would say no dont upgrade . It would be like taking a horse and buggy out on the autobahn or trying to keep up with a formula one race car with a beetle . You would be an annoyance to all you are trying to play with. Hope this helps
I see in the specs that you can upgarde the RAM from 1GB to 4 which sould help a bit. The CPU is rather old and only single core. You could change it if it is in a socket AM2 to any other AM2 CPU. Since it uses Sata2 it could also be intressting to change to a SSD.
These are all the supported products for the drivers included in the post. The check mark icon next to a NVIDIA model means that a user successfully installed Windows 10 and leaved a comment ?.
Thank you so much for posting this fix. It worked perfectly for my NVIDIA 7300LE card. I used your link to download the new video driver first which took some time due to its size. I then used the the link for your manual windows upgrade which took many hours to download and install Windows 10. After the upgrade finished, I installed the new video driver and it is all working perfectly. It all went smoothly without problems. Thanks again for making it possible.
Ivan, thank you very much for researching the problem of installing Windows 10 with a Nvidia driver issue. I followed your scenario exactly and had absolutely no problems with the install. Even though I was a little nervous I should not have been. Thank you for your efforts which will obviously help many more folks like me. To them I say, follow the instructions, they work!
Excellent help. Well done and Thanks. I have an old Dell dimension E520 NVIDA 7300 LE and your plan worked perfectly. I had read elsewhere how to do this but as usual the geeks speak another language and are actually not that helpful as they try to show how smart they are. This was brilliant and so simple to follow. Again well done and Thanks mate!
Hello! I had no warnings about driver prior to installing windows 10. But after the install the system was unable to detect my geforce 660M graphic card. Instead It is Intel HD 4000 thats showing up in the list. I f I choose hidden devices I can se my Geforce card, but in properties it says I have to connect it to the computer. Any idea if reinstalling windows 10 will solve this?
This method worked like a charm for me. I had to download the GEForce driver as well. My old LG monitor looks better than it ever has, and the Win10 installation went smoothly. Thank you so much for this workaround.
as I posted earlier, all went well with suggested Windows 10 download and driver installation. I have one minor problem that I noticed. If I put my computer to Sleep, when I come back to operations, I lose the driver ability to provide a nice font and resolution (it is too big for the screen). When I reboot, all is well again.
Hello,
I have a desktop with Nvidia 7600GS graphic card.
I have successfully installed Windows 10 but I cannot install the latest graphic driver. Always fails in the first step of installations which is check the compatibility with the system.
What can I do to solve this?
Thanks
Hi Ivan, I successfully downloaded windows 10 using the media creation tool, I did have to adjust the screen resolution as you described. I have a GeForce 6150LE. Thanks for the very informative post.
Hi Ivan, I have a nvidia geforce 6150 nforce 430 on Win 7 x64, when I run the media creation tool to install on this PC the progress just stays at 0%, any idea what causes this, btw, your article is the only one I found that makes this process easy, thanks
I followed your instructions to fix my Windows 10/Nvidia 7100 compatibility issue. I can report that I was successful. Everything looks fine now. I wish to thank you for posting such helpful information. Good job. Regards, Jorge
I have this issue with my VAIO VGN-AW21S. Video card is GeForce 9600M GT and that is ON SUPPORTED list, but after upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was installed Microsoft generic driver and is not possible install official latest drivers for Windows 10 from nvidia.com.
Solve someone this issue with 9M series?
Thank you for your assistance. Having the same problem, I followed your advice to install Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool. It installed without complaining about the NVIDIA display. I then downloaded and installed the latest GeForce driver and all seems to be well.
Eu baixei esses dias o Windows 10 Pro 64 Bits.
The problem with my particular HP dv6700 laptop is the native screen resolution was 1280800. After the Win 10 installed, I was only presented with 800600 and 1280768. If your display was previously using one of these two resolutions, you should be fine. In my case, dropping back from 1280800 was not acceptable. Icons were disproportionate and default windows would spill over into the margins (non-viewable area).
Thanks Ivan, but do u think your idea works for my case too? Mines Nvidia GeForce G210M / 9400M G Windows 7 64 bit OS.
Does your media creation tool allow me to download windows 10 dump and install through a flash drive / iso file? Am I gonna have to reinstall all the drivers and programs again?
Yes, the upgrade will work. Download the latest driver for your NVIDIA model and install it when you are on Win 10.
Your ASUS has no Win 10 drivers listed, but you can find many of them here.
Regarding the message Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology are not supported, it is there since Windows Vista. The NVIDIA driver for my ASUS notebook also mention that and works fine.
I have an Acer Aspire All-in-one series with Geforce G210M. Thanks to you, I have upgraded to Windows 10 with Microsoft Basic display setting.
I found the 341.95 driver and tried installing but get an error message that there are no compatible hardware found. Not sure why. Please help.
Check this comment from Rob. For the G210M you need to modify the NVIDIA INF file as explained in the installer section.
An easier solution is to use the 259.47 driver from the notebooks section. I checked the INF file for that installer and your model is there ?
