I think the BVI can benefit greatly from using sports tourism in the form of track and field.

The Caribbean constantly produces some of the world’s best track and field sports athletes. Caribbean nations take turns hosting the Carifta Games. In the past Jamaica has also hosted the IAAF World Championships.

For the nations who host track and field events, it allows them to showcase the nation. Economic benefits of showcasing the nation include attracting foreign investment. The tourism produced by the event also helps the economy.
For athletes, it gives them the opportunity to go against themselves against the best in the world.
For spectators, they get to see a high level of competition, making it more entertaining.
The economies of cities, regions and entire countries are gradually more dependent on combining sports and tourism.
Tourists interested in sports tourism spend a lot of money and stay longer than other tourists. Their direct benefit to a country is cash and their indirect benefit can be years of follow up visits.
Some additional benefits can include the development of new infrastructure and service industries, increased employment and a stronger national economy.
Barcelona doubled its number of tourists in the 10 years following the 1992 Olympic Games and other cities in Spain also benefited. Barcelona has since become the sixth most attractive European city to locate a business.
In the 21st Century traditional vacations to places just for sun and sea have changed to more sport related vacations and tourists are eager to attend an ever increasing calendar of sporting events.
A recent study commissioned by the Brazilian government, showed that the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio will provide an increase of more than $24billion dollars to the country from 2010 until 2027.
Jamaica develops events around the incredible and natural sporting talent of its people. The country benefits from the ever-increasing trillion dollar industry of track and field.
Jamaica’s achievements in track and field are legendary and have contributed to the dominant and internationally known Jamaica brand. The amazing performances by athletes have commanded the respect and the recognition of the international community.
Sport tourism is now a device to make and achieve generating major revenues, creating thousands of new jobs, regenerating infrastructure, and to developing entire destinations.
Sports tourists are passionate, high-spending, and enjoy new sporting experiences. The direct benefit to a destination is the cash spent by these visitors while the indirect benefit can be Using track and field as the BVIs main form of sports tourism can give many opportunities to local athletes. Other countries have benefited greatly from this and the BVI should join the group of them.
