While many of us make New Year's Resolutions about having a healthy body, (eat less, exercise more, etc...) the information below will help us make New Year's Resolutions for a more creative, healthy perspective.

 TED Talks

TED.com (Technology, Entertainment, Design) provides talks by the leaders in the three areas that represent its acronym.  More than 900 TED Talks are now available on the web free, with more added each week.  A link is on the DeBakey Virtual Library site-- click on the Teacher Resource link.  These videos are released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND license so they can be freely shared and reposted. (And thankfully are not blocked!)

Karen Armstrong is a TED Talk presenter and recipient of the TED Prize.  Winners of this award are exceptionally talented individuals who receive $100,000 for "One Wish to Change the World."  Karen Armstrong lays out her program in her book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life.

This books is an excellent choice as a first book to read for the new year.  It is available in the library, but I recommend that you purchase it and keep at your side at all times.
Karen Armstrong

Sir Ken Robinson, another TED Talks participant, will visit Houston through The Progressive Forum and in association with the Rice University Educational Entrepreneurship Program (REEP) and Houston A+ Challenge.  Sir Robinson was knighted for his services to education.  He will speak March 20th at the Wortham Center.  Contact the Progressive Forum for details.
