Hi,

There seems to be sth wrong with VisIt in the VirtualBox VM, I can open the VisIt's GUI,
I can also open a file, but every time I draw the files, it will exit automaticly. And some error
message pops up on the command line, reminding me that sth is going wrong. But I can't
figure out its meaning.

This is the error message on the command line. Had anyone met the same problem?

Running: gui2.8.2
Running: viewer2.8.2 -geometry 1012x635+354+25 -borders 24,1,1,1 -shift 21,25 -preshift -20,-1 -defer -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5600
Running: mdserver2.8.2 -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5601
libGL error
: failed to open drm device: No such file or directory
libGL error
: failed to load driver: vboxvideo
Running: engine_ser2.8.2 -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5600
VisIt's viewer exited abnormally! Aborting the Graphical User Interface. VisIt's developers may be reached via the visit-users mailing list.  Please see:

Best regards,

I've seen this before. I think you have to enable use of the GPU in the
properties of the virtual machine itself (i.e., you need to change the
properties of the executable *that runs the VM image*, in the *host* operating
system).

Hi Prof. Bangerth,

Thanks you for your answer. I checked the VirtualBox menus and settings,
but didn't find any options for me to enable the use of GPU. Did I miss sth?
Or do I have to do some operations on my host system first (my host OS is
Win10)?

Best regards,
David

I only did this once, a couple of years ago, and since I don't have a windows
box, I also can't check. I believe that it was called something that involved
the word "graphics".

You may have to google for it, or hope that someone else on this list remembers.

Yes, paraview works well, nothing wrong happened.
