Just released.

To read the release notes, click on http://groups.google.com/group/dealextreme-nas-/web/snake-os-v-beta3
- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

You can also grab the manual on group files (Thanks to Jarko, Maciel
and Moreto):

about to update here - can you tell us more about the safer vs. full
version? I used the safer, since I was already running beta 2r1 (and
had uptimes of 10+ days!), but what's the exact difference?

Just upgraded using the "safer" version, no issues so far :-)

Doug, could it be possible to have a default config of trying first
DHCP and then if none found fall back to a standard IP?... so far that
is the only rough part of updating the nas, having to change used
subnet.

Also noticed something on dmesg;
"

AFAIK OHCI is for USB 1.1 while USB 2.0 uses EHCI.... but I find hard
to understand if it is actually accessing the disks as USB 2,0 or with
the slower 1.1

Cheers

hey i've just gone hard core and updated to the FULL version on my SKU
26320 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26320) and its
running as sweet as taboo!! good work!!

my only suggestion would be to add a schedular for downloads (time of
day to start and stop all downloads and uploads), that would be
awesome so i can munch into my
offpeak usage only.

cheers!, you have another fan right here

By ftp if you read large files but not in the browser.

About dhcp or fixed by default, I had choosen fixed to make easy to know where to "look" the NAS after an upgrade, but would like to hear other opinions:

great idea for the scheduler !

Or, is it possible to do a little option, which if it's on, stop all
downloads if a computer on the network is connected and resume if not ?

Transmission has scheduling built in, you should be able to enable it
through editing the /usb/sda1/torrents/.config/transmission-daemon/
settings.json. (of course the path depends on where you set your
torrents directory within SNAKE) More info here...

I think that transmission guys will include all config options on web interface, eventually.

In the meantime, it is possible to include it on snake config.

@Sky:

The FULL version contains all firmware code, and actually rewrite even the bootloader. The default firmware used this format. If the upgrade don't succeed, there is a chance to lost (the easier serial) device access.

The SAFER version is an improvement, in which the snake os write all but the bootloader, thus it's safer designation. If anything goes wrong during the update, like a power failure, you can connect a serial and get access to your NAS. This make possible to use of a special tftp image to recover your device. ( Note to myself: make this recovery procedure ready and upload to the group site too )

Swap Files EXT3 is best. In your excellent user notes you write
"Recommended file systems to use, in order: 1 - EXT3, 2 - EXT2, 3 -
FAT32, 4 - NTFS" Does this advice also apply to the DX NS-K330 model
with original English Firmware Version: 2.5.0-May 21 2009?
Thanks Mark

Is this a temporary issue? http://groups.google.com/group/dealextreme-nas-/web/snakeos-beta3-20090811-full.zip
does not exist when I follow the link or download direct. Same with
Safe. User manual is ok.

Thanks. Just upgraded. Perhaps a suggestion that the older versions
are referenced to the latest. I followed a link from DX Forum, and did
not realise you had moved on.

@Jordson:

One of them was built by me, last year (20091027), the other was built by Stefanoste last month (20100325). I know about transmission updated to 1.92 on last one.

@Stefanoste:

Does you have the changelog for the version 20100325?
