Now that I have successfully been able to connect to my NAS through
FTP, my next step is to connect to it through Java, at first to test
how fast a program can write to it. However, I always keep getting a
ConnectionError everytime I try to get the OutputStream from the
UrlConnection.

So can anyone tell me why this is? I'm sure the solution lies in the
NAS and not Java. Furthermore I have been able to connect to it
through Telnet and FTP, both through CuteFTP and the browser. And
since FTP is enabled, there should be a service listening when I try
to connect to it in Java. I have read that it could be due to a
firewall, so I tried closing the one on my computer to no avail, and
since I can connect to the NAS in other ways, and I'm using port 21 in
Java, I don't expect it to be a problem with the internal firewall.

Any ideas are most welcome.

I don't know about the Java but I have trouble with FTP. It connects OK
but the connection drops after a few seconds.
It takes several tries to complete a 100K file. This is accessing from
external internet site. Accessing from my internal network seems to work
OK but have not extensively tested it.

Hi, I suspect that it is ur connection rather than the machine
problem, is ur internet stable? When I try my ftp, the transfer rate
reaches abt 100-300kb/s. You should also try other ways just to make
sure, I suggest you go download the file explorer.cgi file to test
download speed using http.
Good luck

My ISP Clearwire may be the problem.
They block many ports 80, 25 etc. They also throttle applications like
P2P and maybe FTP etc.
I only have 760Kb down and 256Kb up.
I will probably be looking for a new ISP soon when Clearwire (Clear)
goes bankrupt.
