Purchased SuDoku Live - stuck

My son gave me the CD version of SuDoku Live for Christmas.   It came packaged in a box from "Game Mill publishing."   I installed it on my PC and then click on the shortcut icon the installation created.   If I choose any of the options (easy, medium, hard, ...) nothing happens.   The only option on the menu bar is help, but I've read what I can find and still stuck.   All I want to do is play a single player game.   Do I still need to do something online?   How?  Do I need to pay more money?
