Launching Problem

Hi

I'm just posting this here so that any other users will be aware of it. It's not a massive issue but is an irritation when the application doesn't perform in the same way as other applications do on launch. This is what happens on my M1 imac running 15.3.2 (24D81).

Is there a reason why double-clicking a .ctxt file does not automatically open DeadboltEdit and open the file? Also tried Ctrl-clicking a file and going down the Open with... route and that doesn't work either.

What I have to do is open DBE, which opens a new "empty" file and then click the "Open" icon once the application is open to open the file I want. I can't remember if this how it was in the previous version but I thought I could previously just double click on a .ctxt file to launch DBE, but I might be wrong.

Hi Quentin -

Thanks for moving this to the forum; I'm sure your post will be helpful to other Mac users who experience this.  I think it's easier to discuss here also.

I was able to reproduce your problem on my older MacBook, and this is a MacOS-specific problem that may not have a simple solution.  Double-clicking a .ctxt file launches DeadboltEdit, but the file information is not getting passed to the application.

I'll look deeper and do some research.  The best way to use DeadboltEdit for now is to simply launch the app, then use the File -> Open dialog.

If you decide you would like to go back to the prior version (V3.40), there is a link to older versions on the website, on the Download page.

I'll update this post when I know more.

The problem of launching by double-clicking a .ctxt file on MacOS is fixed, and a new installation file (DeadboltEdit_V3.50-2.dmg) is on the website.

After this release is installed, the Help -> About dialog should show V3.50-2 for the version.

This problem only affected the MacOS version.
Sorry for whatever inconvenience this may have caused!

Hi
Thank you for the fix. I downloaded the .dmg file and installed it. I have tried double clicking on a .ctxt file and it did indeed launch DeadboltEdit, it also worked with the "Open with..." dialogue.
What I can't understand is why if I look at the "about DeadboltEdit" I see this:
Screenshot 2025-03-25 at 15.53.47.jpg
This seems to indicate that I'm on the older version but as I deleted the old version and installed from the newly downloaded .dmg I think I must be on the new one.
Am I missing something?
Thanks! Q

Hi Quentin -

Sorry,  I should have been more specific about where to see the version.
On the program menu, use Help -> About, and you should see it there.

Pleased to hear it’s working correctly for you 😀
