There is an interesting statement about extraterrestrial life
in the book "The Bible According to Einstein" (a wonderful
book by the way):

"Given the thousand-billion-billion other stars, there surely exist many
other planetary systems. In fact, recently other planetary
systems have been discovered - the first of these is known as Pegasi 51.
Given the presumably billions of billions of other
planetary systems, there must be millions of billions of planets with
Earth-like environments. Given the millions of billions of
Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe is very likely to
exist. In the vastness of the Universe we are not alone, yet in the
vastness of the Universe we are so alone."

certainty. That is to say, a coin has an equal probability of heads
or tails only if the coin is evenly balanced. The Universe may not
be...evenly balanced, that is....
