Hi,

I am interested in buying a Yamaha XTZ 660 Tenere or a Honda NX 650
Dominator, and I am very intersted in learning more about them.

Which should I choose from the above? Is there any
advantages/disadvantages that I should know about before deciding?

I will have a passenger on several occasions, and that's why I have
considered these models in particular, as I have heard that the seats
are exceptionally good. Is this true?

Are there other options that I should consider in your opinion?

Finally: If you have an XTZ 660 Tenere or a Honda NX 650 Dominator
and consider selling it please e-mail me on ronny....@poboxes.com
and I can guarantee that I'll be in the mood for business.

I'd prefer model 1992 or newer.

Any feedback is appreciated.

If you are ready to shell out the money for a Dominator *and* will ride two-up
often, there's no reason not to get an XL600V Transalp instead, which doesn't
come much dearer and is far better suited ... except you *want* a single ...

Er -- I've got a Dominator and I'm really happy with it (well, I would
be even more happy if it wouldn't be so damaged...) -- but: the seat
is nice as long as you don't drive on long distances. After three
hours without stopping, my back hurts a little ;-)

I do not know if the Yamaha's seat is much better, but I won't expect
it to be...

Be sure that your passenger always will have a better seat than you!
*grin* When I'm driving alone, I often use to slide back to the
passenger's seat on long distances and higher speed...

Really? I have read on some tests in a mag (SuperBike - Norwegian
edition) that the Yamaha XTZ 660 Tenere should be perfectly suited
for riding with a passenger. From what you guys have said it seems
like that is not the case, but then again, the mag-journalist might
be corrupted :-)

Isn't it a little bit heavy? I mean, the Transalp is 211kg, the
Tenere is 171kg, and the Dominator is 180kg. How will that be
reflected when driving and should it affect my choice?

I am pretty much covered when it comes to technical data on the
Dominator and the Transalp, but I don't know too much about the
Tenere. Can anyone help me out here?
This especially regards the seat height and wheel-dimension.

Thanks,

Even worse. I couldn't drive for more than two hours. But the pain was
not in my back, it was in the a**....

This is f... true. The pain is in the a**. You feel it after about 15 min.
And after other 15 min., there is no more feeling "in front" (=vorn!). This
IS a problem! But I've heard, the Sitzbank from the BMW F 650 is much more
comfortably and fits to the bike. I think I will try it.

Okayokay, I did mean the lower part of the back -- well, the lowest :)

Hehe. Don't buy a Yamaha, then. *grin evilly*
For short distances in the city or medium range distances on the
driveway, the NX ist just best! Only for highway I'd recommend a Pan
European or something like that.

Who wants an ugly F650 anyway, since he can get the lovely Dominator?

Ooops, I think you're wrong: The Tenere is not much less than 200kg!
I don't know exactly, but I had one a year ago and it's certainly above
195kg.

The wheel dimensions are 21" (90/90) and 17" (120/90). Seat height
shouldn't differ too much between Dominator and Tenere. If you want to
use your bike off-road, I would highly recommend the Dominator, because
the Tenere is too heavy and handling is also not comparable to a Domi.
Also, I see advantages of the Dominator engine.

All in all, if you hardly want to use your bike off-road, take the
Transalp, its weight is OK compared to the other bikes and you get two
cylinders --- in the other case, get a Dominator.

The XTZ660Tenere isn't 171 Kg !!!! IMHO about 200Kg.

Possible the old XT600Tenere is 171Kg.
