Was bedeutet das?

Diesselbe Meldung kommt auch bei jedem anderen Unicode-Font wie z.B.
Cambria/Cambria Math oder Asana Math

XeTeX braucht im Gegensatz zu LuaTeX bei Fonts, die im TeX-Baum

Das müsste aber eine andere Fehlermeldung geben. Hier sieht es danach
aus, dass die Umbenennung von \intexpr_eval nach \int_eval nicht überall
vollzogen wurde. Im aktuellen Quellcode von unicode-math ist allerdings
kein \intexpr mehr vorhanden.

Du brauchst eine neue Version von unicode-math + lualatex-math. Die
derzeitigen auf CTAN sind nicht mehr kompatible mit expl3.

Du findest sie hier

du musst sie manuell installieren, am besten in einem lokalen Baum.

Ich denke (bzw. hoffe) nicht, dass man auch lualatex-math neu
installieren muss. Seit dem CTAN-Upload habe ich eigentlich nur die
icomma-Kompatibilität hinzugefügt und nichts geändert, was die
Kompatibilität mit expl3 verbessern würde. Wenn die CTAN-Version
Probleme macht, treten die gleichen Probleme bestimmt auch bei der
GitHub-Version auf (dann bitte gleich melden).

ich war auf der github-site. Dort finde ich eine Menge Dateien, von
denen ich laut "Manueller Installation" :
....
Run TeX on unicode-math.dtx to generate the package file unicode-math.sty:
tex unicode-math.dtx
....
eingeben soll.

Gut, die Datei unicode-math.dtx habe ich heruntergeladen, selbiges am
Prompt eingegeben. Das Ergebis ist ein Wust von Fehlermeldungen. Hier
nur der Anfang:

Nun, als erstes brauchst du die richtige dtx-Datei und nicht
irgendeine html-Datei oder was auch immer, du hast offensichtlich
irgendeine Download-Webseite runtergeladen.

OOPS, ich hab die Datei unicode-math.dtx mit "Ziel speichern unter..."
downloaded und landete auch mit selbigem Namen auf meiner Festplatte.

das hab ich mir auch gedacht und auch \listfiles am Anfang eingebunden.
Das hat aber keinerlei Auswirkung.

Habe inzwischen unicode-math.sty neu installiert (version 5e)
Beim Durchlauf bekomme ich jetzt die folgende Fehlermeldung:

Du solltest neue, lokale Versionen nicht in den Hauptbaum von Miktex
installieren. Die gehören in lokale Bäume, bzw bei den ersten Test
erstmal in den Ordner des Testdokuments-

Ich habe keine Probleme (mal abgesehen davon, dass die neueste
Version die Schrift lmmath benötigt). Aber die Meldung klingt
danach, als wäre direkt am Anfang der sty-Datei etwas Druckbares,
was eigentlich nicht in eine sty-Datei gehört. Hast du denn die
Datei mal geöffnet?

Wie recht du hattest, da waren in der Tat diese "^^ef^^bb^^bf%"
seltsamen Zeichen vor dem eigentlichen Code "\iffalse" in der
unicode-math.sty. Wie die da reingekommen sind ....
Ich hab jedenfalls alles noch einmal sauber heruntergeladen, neu
compiliert, installiert ... und... es funktioniert!! Noch die
lmmath-regular.otf installiert, voilà alles bestens!
