MUI 3.8 released

Hi!

Due to some difficulties with MUI 3.7 (which especially came from
programs with insufficient stack sizes btw), I just released MUI 3.8.

Please go to http://www.sasg.com/ and download this new version.

BTW, if you're not registered for MUI yet but own a Vaporware product
such as AmIRC, AmFTP, Voyager, etc., you might want to check out the new
discounts on MUI registrations, also available on www.sasg.com.

BTW2, if you still have problems with certain MUI applications, make
sure to set their stack size to at least 8 kB! Check workbench icons and
toolmanager configs. If you find distributions which supply insufficient
stack space, please contact their authors.

Ibrowse's Custom Classes crashes on 3.8. This happens whenever I activate
the cachebrowser or run the MUI preferences. When I remove them
everything works okay.

FWIW, it works fine here. MUI 3.8 registered and IBrowse 1.02 commercial.

Mal ganz ehrlich, wäre das Anbieten eines Update-Paketes,
welches nur die dringend benötigten Dateien enthält nicht sinnvoll?
Ich kann eigentlich ganz gut darauf verzichten, wiederrum gut 600kb
ohne Verwendungszweck aus dem Netz zu saugen...

Well, I registered MUI in the UK not so long back, and was told that
when version 4 is released, I would have to pay a further £8 to get a
valid keyfile.

Now we are upto version 3.8 (v3.6) when I registered, I hope I won't
have to fork out £8 so soon after paying the initial £15.

Have you any plans for a major rewrite in the near future ?

Leute, kapiert bitte endlich mal, dass revision numbers beim Amiga
nichts mit den Versionsnummern zu tun haben. Nach 3.8 kommt 3.9, dann
3.10, dann 3.11, und so weiter. Beides sind zwei voellig unabhaengige
Zahlen, man kann von der einen nicht auf die andere schliessen.

Irgendwann kommt natuerlich MUI 4, aber es kommt sicher nicht frueher,
nur weil ich zwischendurch mehr kostenlose Updates mache.

You guys are all assuming MUI 4.0 will be a major upgrade requiring renewed
registration. Where has Stefan said that is the case? MUI 2.0 did not require
renewed registration now did it?

Ich weis nicht wie es davor war, aber seit der 3.6 ist mir aufgefallen
das im MUI-Fenster "generic 68000-version" Version steht, bei der 3.8
ist es noch immer so und im MUI Packet gibt es nichts was auf 020 hinweisen
tut. Ich besitze einen 060 und bin natuerlich registrierter User.

One of my programs (the one named " ", nothing more but a little
gimmick) unfortunately still contains debugging information. This
debug data is in a special hunk identified with the ASCII string

HEADDGB

The HEADDBG hunk has absolutely nothing to do with a headbanger virus or
any other dangerous thing. It just helps programmers to find bugs in
their code. Nothing more, nothing less. None of the original MUI archives
on aminet and its CDs did ever contain a virus.

I will take more care to strip any debug information in future releases,
anyway, a little debug hunk is no reason to start senseless virus threads.

Dem steht ja auch nichts im Wege, nur was hat das mit meiner Frage zu tun?

Also nochmal, warum kein Update-Paket nur mit den Files,
die sich auch verändert haben?

Hey come on guys, lay of Stefan!

If you don't like MUI, don't use it. The simple fact of the matter is
that the Amiga desperately needs people like Stefan putting out quality
software like this, or it will die.

Sure, there might be some omissions in the documentation for MUI, but as
far as most of the documentation of it goes, it is the most consitent, well
written documentation that I have read. It could be far worse!

It is obvious even to a newcomer to MUI that Stefan has put in a
*massive* amount of effort to making it a good product and supporting and
documenting it. No product this big, being taken care of by one person,
could possibly hope to be totally bug free or perfect. There's just too
much work involved. Maybe, if you people aren't programmers, that's why
you simply don't realise this.

To have created MUI, Stefan would most probably have had to give up much
of his life and became a hermit Amiga nerd. I for one, appreciate this
sacrifice. Keep up the good work, Stefan. I for one, am registering MUI
(I've only been using it a couple of months - my girlfriend is registering
it for me for my birthday :-)

For the advantages that MUI bring in consistance of user interface design
and programming ease, I for one will put up with any small annoyances and
hope very much that it will be part of AmigaDOS 4.0!

In der MUI-Mailing-Liste wurde das (spezielle Versionen fuer
68020/30/40/60) diskutiert. Einstiegspunkt:

Konklusion war, dass es keine Geschwindigkeitsverbesserung bringt
da MUI nur Integeroperationen benutzt.

Dann patch doch mal die MUIlibs mit patchfor020 und ueberpruefe die
Geschwindigkeit.
