Problem with PSX disk

A friend of mine had his Playstation 'converted' some time ago. This was to
be able to play certain type of CDs. Now he's not able to play any games he
buys over here.
Could this have something to do with the color, it looks like the ones he
has and work are green, the ones I tried where silver.
Would Color-system have anything o do with it. Even though mine says PAL, I
can play both PAL and NTSC (with a multi-system tv). His is also PAL, could
the conversion have messed with NTSC compatibility?
